A sunny spring is a clear sign for the volunteers of Katarínka to start with their activities in full strength and iniciate preparations for the summer season.

This preparation consists in many workshops for the volunteers who will be active during summer. The transmission of know-how by experienced volunteers to newbies is done by sharing experiences upon specialised workshops. For instance, the biggest, principal workshop gathering 80 people around lectures about the project itself took place in March. It also included a camp project management, featuring skills and things which one needs to know so as to survive happily for two weeks at Katarínka.

In May we organised workshops for tourist guides, for drivers of our supplying car, as well as for adventurous young people who will be preparing teambuilding activities for new participants during summer camps.

But after the theory must come the practice! So some of our volunteers have visited a similar project at the ruin of Hrušov castle. The aim was to improve their preserving techniques and to share new methods. In that way, we are helping each other and learning together.

Even though spring is dedicated to know-how workshops, the offical start of the season 2016 brought us to the historical Pilgrimage of White Sunday. This pilgrimage is based on a tradition which dates back to the 17th century, when thousands of pilgrims led by the bishop were walking to Katarínka to have a mass there. This tradition was interrupted, but it was restored by us in 1999, so it has been 17 years now that we are carrying it on. There were approximately 200 pilgrims and another 300 joined the mass at our church.

That´s shortly all for now, you can look forward to next report or simply come to visit ;)
