Pine Tree Seedlings in our Nursery
In partnership with National Forestry Authority and Katakwi District Local Government, Voice for Humanity Uganda has been able to establish a tree nursery located at Katakwi District. So far 5000 seedlings of Pine Trees have been raised and ready for distribution to the community for planting during this rainy season. We plan to support 100 farmers each with 50 tree seedlings.
Currently additional 10,000 tree seedlings of Gravelia are being raised which shall be ready in the next rainy season which begins in September 2023.
Katakwi District is experiencing unprecedented scale of forest destruction especially for Charcoal. The land is fast becoming bear with traditional trees including shea nut getting extinct. Voice for Humanity Uganda is undertaking community wide sensitization efforts in abid to encourage people to plant trees. This is being complemented with distribution of tree seedlings to the community.

Tree Seedlings ready for transplanting
3000 seedlings of Eucalyptus and Gravelia so far raised and ready for transpolanting. In August 2022, we received support of tree seeds from National Forestry Authoirty (NFA) of Uganda in support of our project to establish a tree nursery in Katakwi district of Eastern Uganda. This was positively received by the local government adminstration who offered us 30X30 square metres of land to establish the tree nrusery. We are happy to report that so far we have 3000 seedlings ready for planting and we will be giving out to Agroforestry farmers at free cost.
We hope to use this milestone to be a stepping stone to start raising indeginous tree species like Sheanut, Tamarind and others that are getting extinct. Unfortunately the cost of purchasing its seeds are extremely high and we count on your donations to help us restore our degraded land and avert the effects of climate change.

The Tree Nursery Located in Katakwi Town Council
In partnership with the National Forestry Authority of Uganda and Katakwi District Natural Resources and Environment Offices, Voice for Humanity Uganda has now established a tree nursery that will be producing tree seedlings for distribution to the community to promote Agro-forestry. We have launched with an initiatl nurseries to produce 50,000 Gravelia seedlings by Septemebr 2022. We are also already grafting Mangoes and Orange seedlings and we hope to have gatfted 20,000 Orange and Mongo seedlings by September 2022.
Voice for Humanity Uganda plans to produce one million tree seedlings annually for dsitribution to the communites to promote climate change mitigation efforts. Katakwi District and Uganda in geenral are currently experiencing unprecendented negative effects of climate change characterised by prolonged drought and occassional floods that is affecting food production and consequently leading to endemic problem of hunger and malnutrition. These challenges are aggrevated by massive cutting down of tree for charcoal which has turned out to be the quickest source of income for the rural poor especially the youths. Unfrotuantely without any direct efforts to promote tree planting, the situation could get worse.
