Sport for Development requires a developed sport - In order to use football as a vehicle to drive community uplift, we must play a role in raising the standard of football in Pakistan as well. The KU Academy draws the best talent from our community centers and engages children into a more structured, intense, and focused program whereby they are given the opportunity to make sport into a career and serve as agents of change within their communities.
In the absence of professional and grassroots athletic development programs, we aim to provide children with exceptional talent and grit the opportunity to take their football to the highest level. The problem is that we lack facilities and resources to develop athletes and promote physical literacy within our most vulnerable communities. Pakistan has talent, and we want to see it flourish. We must play a role in developing the very sport we use as a vehicle for social change.
In an effort to raise the standard of the game, develop athletes that will represent our country in the future, and create agents of change for sport within our culture, we engage 90 children from across our centers into a focused and structured excellence program. The aim is not only to develop successful players, but also to embed in them values such as discipline, respect, and tolerance, so that they can become role models in their communities. They will be the future of football in Pakistan.
The program serves Under 10, 12, and 14 age categories (U16 for girls) - our aim is that these young athletes will siphon off into our professional level teams, national teams, and clubs outside Pakistan as well. They will pave the way towards introducing the value of sport in our society, serve as agents of change within their own communities by encouraging more youngsters to participate and compete, and change how the world views Pakistan by virtue of their grit and talent.
