Arrivals and Departures At St. Andrews Baby Unit

St. Andrews Baby Unit provides shelter and care for up to 15 babies from newborn to 3 years who have been orphaned, abandoned or neglected. The year 2015 began well at the Baby Unit with all children making significant progress on growth and development. We have dedicated house mothers led by Matron Lucy who are doing commendable work to ensure that the children at the Baby Unit are happy, comfortable and healthy.
It is always a pleasure to share a good news about Baby Unit and we thought to share Grace's story with you.

Grace was 19 weeks when she was brought in to the St.Andrews Baby Unit, The little baby was abandoned close to a church and was handed in to a pastor’s wife who took her to the authorities that led her to be placed at the Baby Unit. The pastor and his wife had shown interest in taking care of little Grace and making her part of their family but they had to let go of her so that they could follow relevant process to foster her. The pastor and his wife understood the importance of raising a child in a family setting and after following the legal process, they had to wait patiently for months before the children's court gave its final verdict and allowed them to take her home. In the meantime, Grace was making tremendous progress as she was now walking on her own and learning to speak. Matron Lucy says “I am very happy to see that one of my babies has found new parents and a home where she will be brought up like any other child who has been born in that family.” We hope for the best as Grace settles in with her new family and wish her many year of happiness.

As Grace left the Baby Unit, we received four new arrivals. Two siblings, Fidelis and Lewis age 3 and 2 respectively. These two together with their other two siblings who are in the main home(Kandara Children's Home) have been neglected and mistreated after their parents separated and the children were left with their father who is a drunkard. Fidelis has joined the nursery school that was started by Vision Africa in the grounds of the children’s home.
The other two babies who also arrived two three two weeks ago are Blessing who is 2 years and baby John who is five weeks old. Both babies were brought in after being abandoned.
All the other children are doing well. James who is one of the oldest children at the baby unit has been integrated to the main home where he has two older brothers while Angel who was the youngest is now using small plastic stools to stand and make some first steps. Natasha who is the most jovial and ever smiling baby is able to hold small talks with house mothers and other children at the Baby Unit.

We would like to thank you for supporting all the children under the care of the St Andrews Baby Unit. We would like to inform you that Global Giving has its first Bonus Day of the year on the 18th March and they are going to match every donation made through the Global Giving US website with 30%.
