St. Andrews Baby Unit has been home for more than 35 children since it was established at Kandara Children's Home in 2007. This was after Vision Africa saw there was need to provide, protect and care for vulnerable babies who were brought in under difficult circumstances.
As you will probably be aware , we have been working hard to reunite young children with their families or find new loving homes for them. This is because we have learned that family based care is the best way to give a child a safe and positive upbringing. In the last seven years nine young children have been successfully adopted. All reintegrated children are closely monitored as we support both them and their family.
To pursue family reintegration , Vision Africa conducts both family tracing and an assessment to make sure that the family homes are safe for a child to grow up in. In some cases relatives are living in too poor a condition to be able to take on the responsibility of raising a child, in other cases families might need a little extra help. For example thanks to our efforts sisters Natasha and Brassius have been welcomed into their uncle's family. Because their uncle already has a large family and a modest income , Vision Africa has agreed to continue supporting the girls in areas such as their education.
When we successfully reintegrate children into their families we continue to provide careful support both to the children and to their families to make sure that everyone is benefitting from the best family environment possible.
Over the next couple of months you'll see our project evolve as we reintegrate all the children back to their families with ongoing support or find alternative family based care for them.
As always your support is important as we move in this vital direction for children's lives.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Please let us know if you would like more information and of course if you would like to help us further in this transition then please donate.
