Families affected by Hurricane Sandy in the Far Rockaways community in Queens, NY, received a double dose of fun and goodwill on May 10 and May 14 when K.I.D.S. teamed up with SnowSports Industries America (SIA) and the Queens Library to stage two great product distribution events delivering brand-new winter apparel and sneakers donated by the generous member companies of the SIA.

On May 10, the Far Rockaway Community Library was turned into a winter wonderland to host the donation of thousands of winter apparel items to area residents affected by the storm. The following week, the Queens Library for Teens hosted a skateboard-themed event to distribute stylish Vans sneakers to young residents from the area. Nearly 300 children, teens and adults chose new shoes. The donation was intended to give support to communities in the Rockaways that were badly affected by Superstorm Sandy and where families are still struggling to recover.
One 15 year old said "OMG, I never got two pairs of sneakers at the same time in my life."
A 16 year old who lost everything in Hurricane Sandy said: "This is the first pair of new sneakers that I got since the Hurricane."
K.I.D.S.' donation gives kids and their families tangible proof that better days are coming. Both events were an uplifting opportunity to put smiles on the faces of residents in this community. The events also continue K.I.D.S.' ongoing relief efforts for the families six months after  Sandy hit.
