Through this proposal, JA North respectfully requests support for our JA BizTown & JA Finance Park programs as we provide over 17,000 students with personal finance and career readiness skills through both in-person and virtual program opportunities in the upcoming 2023-2024 program year.
Even before recent cost increases, 40% of Americans said they struggled to pay for healthcare and food, and research shows that only a third of Americans understand interest rates, mortgages, or financial risk. To address problems like these, JA programs like BizTown and Finance Park teach over 17,000 students per year important life skills, such as how to balance a budget, prepare for specific career paths, and plan for successful futures.
Students who participate in JA BizTown and JA Finance Park learn key lessons in career readiness and financial literacy, such as: (1) how to manage a debit card and checking account; (2) how to balance a budget; and (3) how to plan for important expenses. With your support, Junior Achievement North will continue to expose students to experiential lessons and career-building skills that are essential for success in the 21st century.
Our goal is for students participating in JA BizTown and JA Finance Park to gain the following skills and knowledge: (1) Increased awareness of various career pathways available to them. (2) Application of problem solving and critical thinking through experiential learning. (3) Greater understanding of how to make smart financial decisions at an earlier age. (4) Comprehensive knowledge of how a community functions and the role of businesses.
