Today, we address our community with the transparency that has always defined us. With a heavy heart, we must inform you that the "Christmas Dreams" project has reached its closing date. However, we must be honest: we did not achieve the objective we set out to reach.
In Medellín's Comuna 13, boys and girls handed in their letters with the blind faith of those who believe in magic. For them, receiving a Christmas gift was the most important event of the year. Regrettably, despite our management efforts, the donations received—which totaled only $10 USD—were not enough to cover the dreams we hoped to fulfill.
A Painful Reality
It is difficult to accept that, this time, the support was not enough. Seeing hope written on paper and being unable to materialize it into a gift is a reality that confronts us as a society and as a foundation. We were unable to manage all that we expected, and it deeply hurts us that many of our little ones could not receive that tangible message that "someone in the world believes in them."
The Commitment Does Not End Here
Although this specific project ends today without reaching the goal, our mission at Fundación Dame la Mano does not stop. This result is not a final period, but rather an urgent call to reflect on the vulnerability of our children.
"A dream unfulfilled today is a seed of resilience for tomorrow, but also a wound that we, as a community, must help to heal."
We want to deeply thank the small handful of hearts that showed their support. Those $10 represent the will to not remain indifferent, and while it wasn't enough for everyone, we profoundly value the intention.
We will continue to work tirelessly. We will not give up, because even though we could not light up all the faces we wanted to this Christmas, the struggle for the dignity, education, and joy of the children of Comuna 13 continues every single day of the year.
Thank you for standing by us, even in difficult times.
