Marginalized communities are left with little help during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. With everything closed down, food and hygiene supplies have come forward as essentials. Therefore, collaborating with multiple community organizations and local stakeholders, Visible Impact aims to distribute food rations and hygiene supplies to vulnerable and marginalized communities.
The strict measures to curb the spread of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in various socio-economic impacts. Workers such as (street vendors, domestic help, sex workers) who fall outside the formal sector of employment are struggling for the fulfillment of their basic need of food. Additionally, the menstrual health of many girls and women is being compromised. Disruption in supply chains, job losses have pushed many to adopt traditional means for managing periods.
The donations provided will be used to help the marginalized communities with food supplies and hygiene kits. Also, choice kits with the preferred menstrual product will be distributed to the unreached woman and girls belonging to vulnerable communities such as slums, women with disabilities, and menstruators of the LGBTIQ+ community. Resources will be mobilized by coordinating with and involving local governments, communities, and organizations working in these diverse areas.
Responding to the effect of COVID-19 is essential for a better recovery of the crisis. Helping these disadvantaged and left-out groups during the pandemic can save the lives of many from starvation. The fulfillment of the immediate needs of women means better sexual and reproductive health for all. Ultimately, these responses will provide ample time for linking people with other long-term recovery plans.
