Five years ago, Joyful Opportunity English Education began giving free lessons in Japan to kids growing up in protective care homes, or orphanages in Japan. These lively, weekly lessons give children, ages two to eight, the benefit of learning from native-level English speakers from all over the world who live and work in Japan. JOEE currently gives classes at three orphanages in Tokyo, one in Odawara, one in Kobe, one in Nagoya. The ability to speak basic English with an accurate accent can help these children get jobs and succeed as they age out of the care system and set out on their own (without the support of a family) at the age of eighteen.
And one year ago this month, JOEE began giving English lessons via Zoom to children who are living in war-theatened areas of Ukraine. During these 45-minute lessons, the children of Ukraine enjoy a respite from the stresses that they face daily and have a good time meeting new puppet friends as they practice their English skills. You can take a peek at one of the lessons through the following link on Ruth Gilmore Ingulsrud's YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/D4Vqt9cjpQc
You are welcome to subscribe to my YouTube channel ( @ruthgilmoreingulsrud1554 ) and share it out especially to families with kids who might benefit from free English lessons and read-alouds. And please take a look at the JOEE website to find out more about us: https://joee.jp
As always, we thank you sincerely for your incredible support of Joyful Opportunity English Education! Please share our GlobalGiving link and information about our mission with family and friends so that we can continue to help disadvantaged children in Japan.
Note: All photos of children in protective care must have recognizable faces hidden for the privacy of the children.
