Peace Winds is partnering with several community groups in Haiti's Southern Department, the Sud, to provide members with resources and training in areas such as sewing, fishing, and cashew and peanut production. Many groups like these have been impacted by natural disasters such as Hurricane Matthew in 2015 and the major earthquake in 2021. With your support, Peace Winds is helping community members gain the skills they need to work in important sectors and support themselves and their families.
Challenges such as recent natural disasters and Haiti's deteriorating security situation are affecting many of the community groups in the Sud. Women's groups and cooperatives that work to further the vocations of their members need support to get back on their feet. Needs include supplies and equipment, skills training, and shared meeting spaces.
Over the past several years, Peace Winds has supported skills training for women's groups and youth in Saint Jean du Sud. Programs help community members learn technical and marketing skills in important fields such as sewing and cashew and peanut production. Now, with your help, we are partnering with a fishing co-op to provide the supplies and technical support they need to rebuild.
Peace Winds is partnering with local community groups to learn what they need to be successful. By meeting these needs, they will be more resilient in the face of future natural disasters and better able to support their group members in the long run. As part of this programming, community members strengthen their technical and entrepreneurial skills, sell their products at local markets, contribute to the local economy, and are better able to support their families.
