By Linda Kordek Milton | Best Buddies State Director, Texas
One of the great joys of our mission to secure meaningful, competitive employment for our participants with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) is seeing the long-term growth and success of our placements. Best Buddies Jobs Program is not simply about getting any job, but working on career goals....finding a fulfilling job that you love to go to every day - just like you and me. About six months ago, we reported on our partnership with Credit Union of Texas, where people with IDD are employed as greeters at every one of their branchs in North Texas. Here is another story about CUTX, and another one of our happy employees!
A SMILE THAT SAYS IT ALL: How CUTX made Ryan's dream come true
Ryan Falcon is not just an employee at Credit Union of Texas; he’s a dedicated ambassador for Best Buddies, embodying pride in everything he does. From his involvement in his church to his efforts in promoting Best Buddies and his role as a greeter at CUTX, Ryan approaches each task with determination. Ryan has been employed at CUTX since February, 2023.
For a long time, Ryan harbored a dream: to meet Eric Pointer, the CEO and President of CUTX. When the staff at CUTX learned of Ryan’s wish, they were determined to make it a reality.
Ryan began his journey with CUTX on February 23, 2023, bringing his infectious energy to the workplace. Little did he realize how much he inspired his colleagues, who wanted to surprise him with something special. On October 9, 2024, the moment arrived: Eric Pointer paid him an unexpected visit, creating a magical experience. The smile on Ryan’s face was unmistakable—it felt like a dream come true.
And the reaction of CEO Eric Pointer was just as wonderful, as Ryan asked insightful and knowledgeable questions about the company and its car leasing arm, FairLease. Eric was pleasantly surprised to see how much Ryan knew about the institution and its future plans for expansion.
Ryan isn’t alone in spreading joy at CUTX. His faithful companion, Balto, is by his side, ready to greet visitors with a wagging tail. Together, they form an unstoppable duo, brightening the day of everyone they meet.
Ryan Falcon’s story goes beyond just a meeting with a hero; it’s a celebration of the extraordinary outcomes that arise when we provide opportunities for those in the disability community.
Ryan’s journey at CUTX showcases the power of inclusive workplaces. The company has created an environment where he and others with disabilities can not only work but thrive. This commitment to inclusion has significantly boosted Ryan’s confidence, empowering him to advocate for himself and others.
The impact of CUTX’s inclusive approach extends beyond Ryan, serving as a model for how businesses can create meaningful opportunities for individuals with disabilities. By embracing diversity and fostering an inclusive culture, CUTX is setting a standard for other companies, potentially transforming the lives of many seeking fulfilling employment and social connections.
