It's All About the Children

By Robert Baggalley | Project Leader

Christmas Party for 50 children and their carer’s in December 2021

Home-Start Colchester, Jaywick and Clacton worked in partnership with the Rotary Club of Clacton Jubilee, to raise funds to provide much needed activities, outings and packs for local children in the Clacton area.

The Rotary Club and Home-Start CJC organised a very special Christmas party at the Jaywick Community Centre for disadvantaged children. The remaining funds of £570 contributed to buying 50 Christmas gifts for the local children. They also attended an amazing family party in the Community Centre and got to meet Santa and his Reindeers!

Most of the gifts were purchased using In Kind Direct which means we received a much higher valued gift than if we bought them on the high street. In Kind Direct is a UK charity distributing consumer goods donated by companies to UK charitable organisations working in the UK and overseas.

Using £560 raised by the Rotary Club via its GlobalGiving Project Home-Start provided food for the party, a professional disco to entertain the Children and hired live reindeer for the Grotto. They also provided staff for the party on the evening and to assist Santa give out his presents.

The Rotary Club provided funding to pay for decorations at the party and the cost of building and decorating the Santa Grotto. One of their members dressed as Santa on the evening and gave out presents to the children.

The Rotary Club also approached local stores and as able to obtain the support of local branches of Morrisons, Tesco, Asda and Marks & Spencer’s who made the following kind donations – large number of chocolate selection boxes - £250 worth of new toys - vouchers for food and several brand-new sets of pyjamas. The stores also provided a 20% discount on the party food the Rotary Club purchased from them.

The party was also supported by very kind individual cash donations of £200 from different individuals who support our Rotary Club which was used to pay for the party food.
