Several months have passed since the strong earthquakes which have occurred in Central Italy between August and January.
Since August the Italian Red Cross remains active on the territory with its volunteers, operators, vehicles and facilities. From below our project and fundraising macro- areas in this emergency:
In all four Regions hit by the earthquake IRC responded with 5.500 volunteers and rescuers and more than 2.000 vehicles. The meals taken up by Italian Red Cross in the field kitchens were more than 145.000.
The winter period was really intense because of, in addition to the earthquake emergency, there was the cold -weather emergency with heavy frosts and snowfall. The volunteers and the IRC rescuers were not stopped by the difficulties and they just kept assisting people who needs help. In this phase was essential the work of psycological support (foundamental for the people hit by the earthquake but also for the rescuers).
The Italian Red Cross, in particular the Earthquake Unit, is working on projects with the aim of rebuild the facilities and the social tissue and economic framework, according to Local Institutions, Mayors and IRC Local Committees.
From this perspective the project “Health Posts" ("La salute ti è vicina") has been carried out through the allocation of 23 health posts on reviving primary healthcare services in the hit areas.
In this course of action takes place the health care center of Cascia (PG) and the support for farmers thanks to provision of 100 hay-bale. The IRC is also engaged to build up a network to meet the population needs, examples of these are the multi-purpose Centres that will be carried out in Amatrice and Muccia.
