With your help, young Otomi, Nahuatl and Tepehua indigenous broadcasters promote the use of their languages in a large mountainous region where more than 3,000 communities listen the signal of LA VOZ CAMPESINA. This non-profit radio station transmits 16 hours a day at 105.5 fm with 10,000 watts of potency, from Huayacocotla, Veracruz and has achieved a high impact in the promotion of originative cultures, in their territory and the permanence of the peasant population in 7 Mexican States.
In Mexico, there are about 64 different indigenous groups with their own language, culture and territory, many of whom are threatened and exposed to losing everything, due to cultural exclusion, mining megaprojects, extreme poverty, lack of opportunities, abandonment, insecurity and emigration. In the region covered by this project, there are at least 2 million indigenous people that are members of three ancient cultures: Nahuatl, Otomi and Tepehua, historically disparaged and assaulted.
In this mountainous region, with almost no access to internet and to the worldwide news, our Social Radio (non-profit) plays a very important role by reinforcing local cultures and caring for the territory that makes their survival possible. The radio transmission, according to their customs and languages, contributes to preserve the community's organization, this preservation makes possible an effective sustainability and defense of their human rights.
The continuity of this project will help sustain the life and permanence of the indigenous population in seven states of the Mexican Republic, it will contribute to maintain an ecological balance in this region full of biodiversity, it will also decrease definitive emigration and will avoid the entry of organized crime, political groups and companies without scruples. Corruption cannot affect communities with strong customs and solid organization.
