Hello Sea Israel supporters!

We're back with another update:

Construction Update

The external progress on the Aquarium building has advanced significantly and most of the roof has been completed; all of the required materials and filters have been ordered in anticipation of beginning work on the life support systems; we are in the process of selecting a graphic and interior designer to assist with lighting and signage design; and the pipe that will transfer water to the aquarium has now been laid — one of the important stages prior to the development of the road and parking.

A big thank you to our generous stone facing suppliers have decided to donate all of the surplus stone from their inventories to this project. This stone will be used creatively throughout the building on floors and walls and will assist with keeping costs down.

Education Program Update

Now that the Education Program outline has been completed, detailed work has begun on specific programs aimed at specific ages and varied audiences.

Moving Forward

Please continue to spread the word about Israel's first aquarium - an essential educational tool to raise awareness of the challenges facing our aquatic habitats. We are excited to move closer towards finalization of this wonderful project - the best is yet to come!

Warm regards,

Nicole Wexler and Zoo/Aquarium Team

Winter News from Sea Israel

By Nicole Wexler | Director of Development

Visit our new website!

Hello Sea Israel Supporters! We’re back with a Winter update:

Construction Update

Construction has been advancing at a rapid pace with most of the outer shells in place with the major buildings. Unfortunately, Jerusalem had an unseasonably high amount of rainfall at the start of the rainy season and we have experienced more flooding and drainage issues at the construction site in spite of the advance preparations made (including ground preparation, rock work, landscaping and additional reinforcement of the retaining walls).
In addition, a contractor has been selected for the installation of the life support system and work will begin on this important aspect in the near future.

Education Update

The new Window on the Mediterranean educational website has received almost 1,000 visitors since it launched in September. The site provides a variety of educational content on the Mediterranean Sea for all ages including write-ups, videos, cartoons, and more. Click through on the link provided below to take a look and get started on learning more about the Mediterranean Sea and all of its extraordinary creatures!
In addition, a comprehensive education plan for the Sea Israel Aquarium has been compiled by our expert team of educators and marine biologists. Visitors to the future aquarium will learn about the importance of the world’s oceans, seas, lakes and rivers in a variety of interesting and fun ways.

Moving Forward

We anticipate completing construction by the beginning of 2016. Some major challenges still lie ahead - such as tank design and theming; installation of the life support system; and system testing.
We are also in the midst of planning the exhibit educational material and mechanisms including signage and interactive experiences. Stay tuned for more on this later.

Please continue to spread the word about the Sea Israel Aquarium – Israel’s first aquarium and an essential educational tool to raise awareness of the challenges facing our aquatic habitats. We are looking forward to finalizing the project during the course of 2015 – the best is yet to come!

Warm regards,

Nicole Wexler and the Zoo/Aquarium Team

Fall News from Sea Israel

By Nicole Wexler | Director of Development

Window on the Mediterranean

Hello Sea Israel Supporters!

This Fall it’s all about education:

The marine education information station at the Wet Side Story exhibit was open every day for the duration of the summer school vacation and students attending our summer camp also learned about the importance of conserving aquatic habitats.
Our Education Department have started the process of designing education programs for the new facility so that we can hit the ground running when Sea Israel opens in 2016.
But most exciting of all, the first instalment of the educational website has launched! Window on the Mediterranean provides a variety of educational content on the Mediterranean Sea for all ages including write-ups, videos, cartoons, and more. Click through on the link provided below to take a look and get started on learning more about the Mediterranean Sea and all of its extraordinary creatures!

Construction Update

Construction is proceeding according to schedule and it is truly remarkable to see the buildings and tanks forming before our eyes. Take a look at the construction video in the links below to get a feel of how rapidly things are moving at the construction site.

Moving Forward

We aim to continue generating more educational content for the website which will expand in time to cover topics related to all of Israel’s aquatic habitats (also the Red Sea, freshwater habitats and the Dead Sea).

Please continue to spread the word about the Sea Israel Aquarium – Israel’s first aquarium and an essential educational tool to raise awareness of the challenges facing our aquatic habitats. We are excited to see the progress being made every day. Still, the best is yet to come!

Warm regards,

Nicole Wexler and the Zoo/Aquarium Team
