IRIDA supports refugee, migrant & local women who are among the most vulnerable during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are a community of 450 members from 37 countries. We provide individualized psycho-social support, protection services, legal counseling, based on our members' unique needs. We give the opportunity to refugee and asylum-seeking women to develop their skills and access language & literacy classes, employability training, recreational activities, and a strong community network.
Women are 33% of the total refugee population in Greece, according to the Greek Council for Refugees. Refugee women are among the most vulnerable, facing gender violence, marginalization, and subordination. Refugee women face massive barriers to accessing basic services like legal support & protection, health services, and education. These barriers usually place women in positions of dependency on male family members. We support refugee women, helping them to take again ownership of their lives
Irida Women's Center provides a safe and inclusive space where 450 refugee and asylum-seeking women from 37 different countries can access 1. protection services 2. legal support 3. education and learning opportunities ( language courses, literacy classes, and computer lessons) 4. job counseling and employability pieces of training 5. Psycho-Social Support through recreational activities 6. Child Safe Space for their children 7. a strong community that works as a safety net for our members.
Within 1 year: we did 229 interventions providing food & other necessities, we covered medical expenses for 95 cases and we provided 7 women with private legal support. At the same time, we supported 41 women to find jobs, while 150 women graduated from our language classes. We ask for your invaluable support to continue making a difference in refuge women's lives and advocating for their rights. Every action of solidarity means more women will be able to rebuild their lives in safety & peace.
