Project Report | Nov 13, 2017
Our work with young people

By Valentina Butenko | Project Leader

Dear friends! Thank you for supporting our project for young people! Acquaintance with European values and culture is more important than ever for Ukrainians.
One of the priority areas of work with young people with disabilities in Europe is to protect their rights and ensure access to all areas of human life, help in acquiring independence.
Therefore, our work during the reporting period was aimed at studying the European experience of working with blind youth in Poland (Lodz, Bydgoszcz, Radom) and Germany (Marburg).
In September, with the support of our partners (the Polish charitable foundation Ari Ari), more than 30 young people with severe visual impairments from Kharkov, Kiev, Rivne visited Poland in training and rehabilitation centers, got acquainted with the Polish youth, culture and the history of Poland. Very informative and useful was the trip of our youth to the educational rehabilitation center "Blista" (Marburg, Germany). There we saw how blind people can live on their own. When we returned, we began organizing seminars, trainings, lectures to convey this experience to not only blind people, but also to volunteers.

We pay much attention to educational work with healthy youth. We conduct seminars, trainings, lectures on the ethics of communication and accompanying people with visual impairment. We are implementing the project "Improving the chances of educating young people with a vision impairment". To do this, we train blind men and girls to be independent, confident, successful.

In October we organized the Quest for the International Day of the White Cane we organized a quest for training volunteers to accompany blind people.

In our center, blind students can learn to work on the computer.

Thanks to trips to European countries, our young people are becoming more aware of human rights, of accessibility standards, becoming more active.

Dear friends! We thank you for your non-indifference and desire to help young blind people in Ukraine become a part of the European community.
