Internet is here!
By Alejandra Schmalbach | Communications
With the use of the technology TV White Spaces we ensure the connectivity of 5 farms and 2 educational institutions in Mesetas, Meta. The absence of connectivity in the rural area of Mesetas, Meta, where we developed our project "Technological Transformation: Improving the lives of coffee growers in Colombia", showed the need for a stage of installation and adaptation of technology to give access to Internet to the farms and educational institutions of the area. For this, the used TV White Spaces technology, that allows the use of the blanks of the analog television spectrum to bring broadband internet to rural regions. Since October 6, people in the area have access to the internet, as it was completed the installation of equipment and technical adjustments necessary to bring the Internet service to the farms and schools in the region. 5 farms and 2 educational institutions were used to make the installation of towers and connectivity points that will provide the necessary coverage for the area. This complements the digital literacy and ICT appropriation training that is being carried out in the area with coffee farmers and teachers to improve the competitiveness of Mesetas, Meta, in the areas education and technology.Thank you for being part of this proyect and helping us bring connectivity to the rural areas of Colombia.

First months: planning for connectivity and ICT adoption
By Alejandra Schmalbach | Communications
For the past five months we have done great effort to comply with the first two components of our project: Access and connectivity and ICT adoption.
Our activities have been most of them related to the purchase of equipment, the adaptation of infrastructure in the territory and the management of alliances. We are planning to conclude the purchase and technological adaptation for the implementation of the designed network in the month of August of the current year and we expected to initially benefit seven connection points distributed in the rural area of the municipality.
Also we have been dedicated to the creation of contents for coffee growers and teachers training . Given the challenges of the project, there have been multiple visits to the municipality of Mesetas in order to generate a reliable and accurate diagnosis of coffee farmers to determine the most appropriate and relevant topics for the training cycles. To facilitate this visits, we have a new team member that is going to be in charge of supporting the development of the training and learning activities in the territory. This training sessions will start next week and will extend until beginning of December.
Thank you for your generous support and contributing to improve the livelihoods and living standards of coffee growers in remote rural areas in Colombia. Through the access to internet and the use of ICT tools, they are going to be able to strength their chain value and improve their education opportunities.
