Makaia and ALO & Partners conduct this project whit the purpose of improving the livelihoods and living standards of coffee growers in remote rural areas in Colombia through the access to internet and the use of ICT tools while strengthening the chain value, improving the education opportunities for the youngsters and promoting peace-building in the region.
Our beneficiaries are farmers and their families in remote rural Colombia who have been at the epicenter of the Colombian armed conflict for decades. They can't access to opportunities and information about their products, market, weather or better practices, are not able to share information with their peers or to keep a record about their finances. And they have to relocate in other cities or travel for long periods of time to access education.
Our solution integrates INFRASTRUCTURE + ICT ADOPTION + CHAIN VALUE DEVELOPMENT. Our project will connect the whole community to the internet (500 people). 100 farmers will improve their digital literacy and ICT adoption level. With internet we will help farmers and their families, improve their life quality and incomes, boost their productivity, learn new abilities and increase their access to information and opportunities.
The 100 growers and their families will have access to education, services for agriculture, opportunities for subsidies, funding and institutional aid. Young people will believe in the country lifestyle again and will stop fleeing the area because their well being will increase as well as their education and communication opportunities. This project will also contribute to the peace-building process.
