The project is changing the lives of our children
Our children's lives are already getting influenced by the computers – and this is just the beginning. Computers and then the Internet will come to stay in Garram Children’s school.
Children are learning to read and write with computer games instead of homemade flash cards- children are becoming smarter.
We are using good educational software to enable children to develop and practice broad range skills. This, we hope can help them learn, for example, about letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and rhythm. With the good software, we are sure we can also help children develop their understanding of cause and effect, higher order problem solving, procedural thinking, and creative expression.
The computer centre has helped children develop their:-
Emotional skills:the computer has helped children develop self-confidence and self-esteem as they master computer skills and use the computer to make things happen. This also gives them a reason to smile!
Social skills: In the classroom setting - children often prefer working with one or two partners over working alone, which leads to the development of social skills. This will also apply in the home when their friends or parents are available.
Computers have proven extremely beneficial to kids with certain speech, audio, and motor limitations. In the future, Kids with special needs can use alternative input and output devices (assistive technologies) to interact with computers and do things that they normally could not accomplish independently. They will benefit especially from having access to an on-demand, patient tutor that allows them to work at their own pace. What they will achieve through using a computer will enhance their self-esteem and provide them with a greater sense of control and engagement with the world.
Since the project is changing the lives of our children, I would like to appeal to our donors to expand the campaign to enable more children be reached. For the meantime our children are very excited to learn.
The young children in the Nursery and Early Classes are learning how to type and manipulate the mouse . This will help them to browse when we finally are connected to the internet.
The school has a total population of 260 children and 16 staff.
