Country: Mali
Reporting Date: August 2026
Project Update: Mobilization Continues While We Seek Funding for Implementation
ONG ASRAD remains fully committed to implementing the International Reforestation Camp, an initiative designed to mobilize young people and local communities around reforestation, ecosystem restoration, climate resilience, and the sustainable management of natural resources in Mali.
During this reporting period, our main focus has been on resource mobilization, partnership development, community engagement, and preparations for implementation. While there is strong interest in the initiative, we have not yet secured sufficient financial resources to implement the planned activities at the required scale.
The project requires funding to support essential activities such as the acquisition and production of seedlings, transportation to planting sites, equipment and tools, community mobilization, training of young volunteers, technical supervision, communication activities, and, importantly, the monitoring and maintenance of planted trees.
ASRAD continues to approach potential donors and partners and to identify funding opportunities that could enable the International Reforestation Camp to move into full implementation.
Our vision goes beyond simply planting trees. We want to ensure that restoration activities are community-led and sustainable, with young people, women, farmers, local authorities, and other community stakeholders participating in implementation and long-term monitoring.
Why Support Is Still Needed
Climate change, land degradation, desertification, drought, and the loss of vegetation continue to affect vulnerable communities in Mali and across the Sahel. Restoring degraded landscapes can contribute to improved soil quality, biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation, livelihood protection, and stronger community resilience.
Every contribution to this project can help us move closer to implementation. Additional funding will allow ASRAD and participating communities to transform the preparations already undertaken into concrete restoration activities on the ground.
Next Steps
In the coming months, ASRAD will continue to:
We sincerely thank all GlobalGiving donors, supporters, and partners who continue to believe in this initiative.
Your support can help turn this project from preparation into action. Together, we can restore degraded land, engage a new generation of environmental leaders, and strengthen the resilience of communities in Mali.
Thank you for standing with ASRAD and the communities we serve.
