Provide clean & safe water for 1500 women&children

The Provide safe and clean water for 1500 children and women projectaimed at improving water supply and sustaining it to serve the Mutulani community in Makueni County, Kenya has continued to prove its benefits to the whole community since its inception.

Since January 2024, this project saw a number of gains unfold which include; continuous rainfall which provided an enabling environment for 100% survival of trees planted during the October-December rain season. The rains have resulted into good harvests which have made the community store food assuring food security for some time. The continued rains have also provided an opportunity to farmers to plant crops in the rain season beginning March-May rain which is still promising, and bringing an assurance of good harvests hence resulting to food security for a longer period.

PEN Kenya engageg a former student and a water beneficiary from Mutulani primary [Yvonne Mutua] for an internship program  where during the period of learning PEN took her to speak to students in Mutulani as a motivation to work hard and give back to the community in return

The project management committee on the other hand has finalized plans of laying down proper strategies of the project sustainability

The next steps for the Mutulani project include;

• Continue environmental conservation exercises in Mutulani area and surrounding places
• Participate in the year’s GlobalGiving campaigns

The Provide safe and clean water for 1500 children and women projectaimed at improving water supply and sustaining it to serve the Mutulani community in Makueni County, Kenya has continued to prove its benefits to the whole community since its inception.

In December 2023, PEN Kenya staff visited Mutulani water project and users for an environmental conservation exercise where collectively over 150 seedlings were planted around the borehole to enhance water retention and increase its water yield.

During the visit, it was noted that there were adequate rains and the crops thriving well. The Mutulani Dispensary and Mutulani secondary school had moved milestones ahead to not only accessing water to the institutions but installation of water to all their departments in the institutions. For instance, Mutulani secondary had piped water into their newly constructed modern toilets, the Kitchen and the boarding wing whereas the dispensary had piped water in all its departments within the health facility improving the sanitation of the institutions greatly.

Finally, the project earned a total of 16 new and unique donors into the project during this year’s November 28^th Giving Tuesday. This was purely an initiative of the community through Mawe CBO. We hope that the coming year will continue to demonstrate the pleasant results as witnessed in the ending year

The next steps for the Mutulani project include;

• Continue environmental conservation exercises in Mutulani area and surrounding places
• Participate in next year’s GlobalGiving campaigns
• Open a bank account to channel all the water levies collected  to enhance the project sustainability by the Project Management Committee
• Undertake another major project [Sand dam] to act as a climate change mitigation and serve the neighborhood community as well
