The Hacker School wants to inspire children and young people for programming. Our vision is that every young person should have programmed once in order to build understanding for the digital world and develop possible future perspectives.
Digital education in Germany is still not meeting the requirements of the job world. Our children are not provided with the tools to succeed in an ever-more complex and demanding world. Most of the knowledge gathered depends on the social background, which reinforces gender and cultural stereotypes, creating further inequalities along the way.
In our project, all children learn to explore creatively and collaboratively the world of programming. Assisted by IT-professionals, they create their first computer program and experience the joy and empowerment of self-efficacy. Combining the 21st Century Skills (creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication) with digital knowledge unleashes great potential and self-trust among children. Thus, they start exploring their digital interests and improve digital literacy.
The project improves equal access to employment by empowering - among others - girls and young women, as well as socially disadvantaged children.
