By Maria Gugerty | Vice President, 4GIRLS Organization
Greetings everyone,
The 4GIRLS Organization is happy to report that at the end of this past school year, we were able to grant more middle school and high school scholarships than ever before! Brittney, Niyah and Isabella of Long Beach, CA, and Maria, Cassie, Carolina and Karlie of Anaheim, CA, were all the worthy recipients of our 4GIRLS Organization 2018 Scholarship Awards! We were impressed and humbled by their dedication to academics, their commitment to giving back to their communities, and their many overall achievements. Well done, girls! Your future is bright!
As summer began, our Orange County, CA chapter held their second annual “Garden Tea Party” fundraiser and it was great fun! The event provided an opportunity for women and girls of all ages to dress up, wear a fancy hat or a fascinator and enjoy a lovely afternoon learning about and supporting our program. The event also provided an opportunity for our 4GIRLS middle school and high school girls to learn some new skills by making sandwiches, serving tea and even presenting in front of a crowd. It was a successful and sold out event – which ensured that the Orange County, CA chapter received the funding they needed for their upcoming annual workshop. (As a reminder, all of the programs that we offer are at no cost to the girls, so fundraising is critically important to our organization.)
In July, we held a Yoga and Mindfulness Workshop with a certified yoga instructor. Most of the girls that took part in the session had never participated in anything like this before. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive as the girls truly enjoyed learning about the art of mindfulness and centering and being able to spend time focusing on themselves. This was just one in a series of 4GIRLS Empowerment Events that we hold throughout the year. All of these events are designed to expose our girls to fun and empowering activities that they may not have an opportunity to experience otherwise.
As the summer draws to a close, our Orange County, CA team is busy at work preparing for their next annual workshop taking place in Anaheim, CA October 13thand 14th. Approximately 100 girls are expected to attend that event – the largest to date! Our Long Beach, CA team is busy at work preparing for the annual gala taking place on November 3rdat The Alamitos Bay Yacht Club. This is the largest fundraising event that we hold and the one that supports most of the programs and activities that we fund throughout the year. It goes without saying that we look forward to reporting on a very successful event next time!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We could not do what we do without you.
Sincerely,
The 4GIRLS Board of Directors
