Report for Global Giving

Thank you for your support!
Since our April GlobalGiving Campaign, ImagiNation Afrika has been able to increase its reach to over 5,000 children. Read on to see what we have accomplished together.

L'Heure Rouge Dak'Art 2018  : Children as Changemakers

ImagiNation Afrika was invited by the Ministry of Culture and the Artistic Direction of the Dakar Biennale to produce spaces and programming for children.  Over 30 schools and 4,000 school children visited and participated in specialized art workshop with 16 artists from Senegal, South Africa, Nigeria, Benin, France and the United States, debates with local artists and engaged with one on one conversations with Simon Njami, curator.   Feedback from students and teachers were overwhelmingly positive. 100% of those interviewed reported they were satisfied with the activities and 92% eager to work with ImagiNation Afrika again.

GlobalGiving Funds helped us disseminate a pedagogic guide to over 50 participating schools and children's association, as well as disseminate a free copy for download through our social media pages that received over 720 downloads.

Ker ImagiNation: Hands On Learning

April and May in Ker ImagiNation's makerspaces and ImagiNation Labs-  and our Early Learning programs allowed children to explore engineering (specifically ziplines, catapults and pulleys) and renewable energies .  Over 60 children joined us for Saturday programming, while 80 children from preschool La Tarbiya  joined us every Wednesday during the months of May.

Outreach and Capacity Building

In April and May,  ImagiNation Afrika  partnered with Senegal's Ministry of Higher Education's Division of Research and Promotion of Scientific Culture to lead 2 Science Pop-Up Play Spaces for very young children.  Over 150 children ages 5- 10 tested and experimented to understand how pulleys and catapults work.

In mid-May, ImagiNation Afrika conducted its second training in the Southeastern region of Tambacounda for over 40 early childhood professionals.  This training focused on designing play-based learning spaces that align with the national curriculum.  ImagiNation Afrika will work with teachers and directors  pilot 5 spaces in this region in October 2018.

Join the #playisessential campaign

Please join ImagiNation Afrika and our allies in the #playisessential campaign, June 18-August 18, 2018. This is timed around the summer holidays to share the information that play is essential for children’s development and learning.

ImagiNation Afrika is planning a bus campaign, pop-up play spaces, media outreach, parent training sessions and many other activities, calling on parents and the entire early childhood ecosystem to commit to children’s positive development by encouraging and promoting play for all children.

Stay tuned as we work with media, private sector and government to change the way Senegal understands play!
