Today we have been analyzing our field assessment data and working on the large veranda of the Governors Residence. Our team of five and many other NGO and donor teams have camped out in preparation of the coming weeks. UN agencies have set up internet access and we have stacking power cords to acomodate the few hundred people who come and go between field visits, meetings and coordination efforts. Here at the Governors Residence there is a great atmosphere of collaboration as we all work towards helping the people of West Sumatra. We are sharing information, data, and trying to get a good picture of the damage out in the most rural areas. What we know now is that much remains to be done, over 100,000 house-holds still lack emergency shelter supplies of the most basic kind and we see trucks full of goods heading out all day long. As the rainy season draws near I truly hope the people have a dry place to sleep.
