Thank you—we cannot express enough gratitude for the support shown in the aftermath of the November 2022 earthquake in Indonesia. Communities across Cianjur regency in West Java were devastated. Tragically, more than 300 people were killed and ten of thousands of families were left without homes and safe shelter.

Thanks to your generous support of the Indonesia Earthquake Relief Fund, GlobalGiving was able to provide flexible grants to two vetted organizations based in Indonesia on the front lines of earthquake response. Here is a snapshot of some of the work your donation supported:

  • IDEP Foundation: With more than two decades of experience working across Indonesia, IDEP Foundation was well positioned to quickly respond to the devastation of the earthquake. In the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, the organization provided emergency food and water supplies, medical services, psychological counseling and support, and emergency shelters to hundreds of families in Cianjur. Since January 2023, the organization has shifted its focus to disaster risk reduction and disaster preparedness to help communities be ready for the next disaster or crisis.
  • Dompet Dhuafa: For more than 23 years, Dompet Dhuafa has been serving communities in crisis across Indonesia and in nearly two dozen other countries around the world. In the immediate aftermath of the earthquake in West Java, its trained response teams provided hygiene kits, medical supplies, blankets, emergency shelters, education kits, and infant supplies to the most affected areas.

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
