Amardeep is ten years old, and lives in Patna with his parents. He can communicate with his parents and teachers, recognise his personal effects and he even knows the way to his school. Things weren’t always like this for Amardeep.
When he was just 8 days old, Amardeep suffered a complication after he contracted jaundice. It left him deafblind. When he turned five years old,
Amardeep joined our Early Intervention Centre where he received physiotherapy, special education and care at home.
His mother and special educators spent time with him and helped him learn to walk and become familiar with his surroundings. He learnt to interact with other children his age. Then two years ago, he joined the
Ashadeep project at the age of eight and began to learn a lot more! He can now communicate comfortably with his parents and teachers in sign language.
After some care by his parents and his special educators, Amardeep began to become more social. Amardeep is a quick learner and his teachers have already begun creating his Individualised Education Plan (IEP) to help him learn even more. His mother is thrilled that Amardeep is becoming more and more independent. “My son is learning a lot of things,” she says.
