In the Summer of 2015, we embarked on a journey with you to support children of women in sex work with an education that could help them break the vicious cycle of poverty and abuse. Today, 3 years since, you’ve enabled us to support 300 children with scholarships that changed their lives for the better and had a long term positive effect on their health and well being. Your support even helped their mothers reduce their dependency on sex work and in many cases, build alternative livelihoods, thereby addressing their vulnerability to violence and serious health risks.
Swasti is the secretariat to Taaras, a national coalition of women in sex work. The community leaders and their organisations have taken up this initiative of raising funds for educational scholarships for the children through local crowdfunding mechanisms based on the model you have made possible. We at Swasti continue to guide them with strategic and technical support.
