Project Report: Inclusive Education for 900 Blind Children in Uganda
Introduction
We are delighted to present our project quarterly report on the Inclusive Education of 900 Blind Children in Uganda, made possible by the generous support of donors like you through GlobalGiving. We are grateful for your trust in Itinga Charity Education Foundation (ICEF)'s mission to provide inclusive educational opportunities to blind children in Uganda.
Project Update
Between June and September 2025, we received a total disbursement of $39.5 in donations. Despite the little, we utilized it to support a totally blind boy who previously lacked access to special or inclusive schooling. The funds helped pay his school fees at Ngetta Girls Primary School in Lira, enabling him to access quality inclusive education with Braille resources.
Impact Story
From Exclusion to Inclusion
We would like to share the story of a boy who was born blind. Previously, he attended a village school that lacked Braille assistive devices and special needs teachers. As the only visually impaired pupil, he often went to school mainly to play with peers, as his former school couldn’t adequately support his learning needs. His mother had lost hope for his education, and his former headmaster was worried because he had already been in the school for two years without Braille support. When we heard his story, our organization, Itinga Charity Education Foundation, intervened immediately, even though we don’t yet have a sponsor for him. With your support, he joined Ngetta Girls Primary School, where he is now learning Braille and benefiting from an inclusive education environment. This change has not only improved his academic performance but restore hopes and future prospects.
Project Impact
This intervention has directly impacted the boy's life by providing him with:
- Access to quality inclusive education
- Opportunities to learn Braille and enhance his academic performance
- Promote inclusivity and future prospects.
Financial Report
- Disbursements Received in Q2 2025: $39.5 (equivalent to 142,200 Ugx).
- Expenditure: Paid top-up school fees of 142,000 Ugx out of the total school fee of 350,000 Ugx ($100) for one blind child in primary school.
- Beneficiaries: One boy who was born blind and never had access to school with braille , now joined Ngetta Girls Primary School, Lira. An inclusive school for the blind.
