The WASH Project at Isalalo Primary School has made significant progress and is currently at its final stage of implementation. The project was designed to improve access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services for pupils and teachers, thereby creating a healthier and more conducive learning environment. Since the commencement of implementation, substantial efforts have been made to ensure that the planned activities are completed according to the required standards and that the intended beneficiaries receive the expected benefits.
Implementation of the project has progressed well, with most of the planned works now completed. The project has focused on improving WASH facilities within the school, including the provision and enhancement of water access, sanitation infrastructure, and hygiene facilities. These improvements are expected to contribute significantly to the health, dignity, attendance, and academic performance of pupils by reducing the challenges associated with inadequate water and sanitation services.
Despite the positive progress achieved, the project encountered financial challenges during implementation. The initial funds received were insufficient to cover all the costs required to complete the project due to increasing prices of construction materials, transportation costs, and additional technical requirements that emerged during implementation. However, recognizing the importance and potential impact of the project, SHIPO made considerable efforts to mobilize additional resources from other donors and well-wishers. Through their generous contributions, the funding gap was addressed, enabling the project to continue without compromising the quality of the planned outputs.
The support received from additional donors has played a crucial role in ensuring that the project reaches completion. Their contributions have demonstrated shared commitment toward improving the welfare and learning environment of children at Isalalo Primary School. The collaborative efforts of donors, the school administration, community members, and the project team have been instrumental in overcoming implementation challenges and maintaining project momentum.
Currently, the project is undergoing final inspections and quality assessments by the relevant authorities to ensure that all works meet the required technical standards and specifications. Only minor finishing activities remain before the project can be officially completed and handed over for use. The implementation team is closely monitoring the remaining activities to ensure timely completion and sustainability of the project outcomes.
The project is expected to bring long-term benefits to the school community by improving access to clean water, promoting good hygiene practices, and providing safe and adequate sanitation facilities. These improvements will contribute to reducing waterborne and sanitation-related diseases, enhancing pupil attendance, especially among girls, and creating a safe and healthy learning environment for all children.
SHIPO extends its sincere appreciation to all donors, partners, community members, and stakeholders who have supported the implementation of this important project. Their commitment and contributions have made it possible to reach this important milestone. A final completion report, together with project photographs and documentation, will be shared once the final inspections and handover process have been completed.
