Jakarta Animal Aid Network's (JAAN) aid for carriage horses has already begun. Please follow our progress on social media under Aid for Carriage Horses/#Peduli Kuda Pekerja.
We have obtained data from three locations in Jakarta about the conditions for the horses. Medical help has been provided and our team member, who had previously trained as a ferrier, has assisted with fixing and trimming the horses' feet. We received help from the Indonesian Horse Association which partnered with JAAN to hold a medical clinic last month in West Jakarta.
Most problems with the horses are preventable if only housing could be improved and regular medical assistance given. We need building materials and tools to help improve the stables and volunteers to help with this project. We also distributed a number of proper halters to horses which eased their suffering.
Regular veterinary visits are very much needed so any Indonesian veterinarians in the West Jakarta Area who are willing to help are encouraged to call us at +6281314962608.
JAAN wishes to see a strong committment from the city government to improve the welfare of the carriage horses. We are currently awaiting a formal reponse from them to our letters and calls requesting to meet them.
