2019 first season, motivating farmers!

We are pleased to report that working with farmers last season procumbent process with buyer was fruitful with few lessons learnt. Below you will find the actual figures representing products sales, acreage of land used, yield per acreage, total sales for farmers in the first season.

Product - Chia

Total Acreage for plantation = 600
Total yield per Acreage in kg = 250
Total yield in kg realized = 150,000
Total number of kg sold by October 2019 = 14260
Total UGX payment to farmers by October 2019 = 42,780,000

Selling price for Chia UGX 3,000

Product – Soybean

Total Acreage for plantation = 660
Total yield per Acreage in kg = 500
Total yield in kg realized = 330,000
Total number of kg sold by October 2019 = 6080
Total UGX payment to farmers by October 2019 = 9,120,000

Selling price for Chia UGX 1,500

Lessons learnt

It is important to promote products with optional markets
Proper records and documentation is key in tracking outcomes e.g. some farmers around the buyer factory sold their products directly and no records were kept by lead farmers.
Failing to follow planned activities brings mistrust with farmers
Because of much competition from different companies, makes it difficult to control flow of information e.g. on prices.
