December 2016 Report

By Jenn Carpenter | Project Founder

December 2016 Report: Pamoja Tunaweza Women’s Center
We have had a very successful fall, at Pamoja Tunaweza Women’s Center.

We have continued to build partnerships with other organisations in the area and to collaborate with them.

In October, we had seven students from Canada assist in a two- week outreach mission during which we offered health education, hypertension screening and primary healthcare both at a Factory an in rural villages. We continue to follow-up with many of the patients that were identified during that time.

We have been significantly building our approach to Health Education and Health Promotion, as we see this as an essential element in promoting health in the region. We have started a free, weekly education series at the Center and have had some encouraging results.

Our most recent new project is to establish a laboratory on-site of the clinic. We feel that this will allow for more complete care and will enhance the healthcare of our patients, especially those who have significant financial hardship and could not afford to pay high prices at off-site labs.

In addition, we would like to raise money to buy an ultrasound machine as well as a new ECG machine. At present, when we order these tests for our patients, they are required to go off-site to acquire the tests, at significant extra charge to the patients. By having them onsite, we know that we will be able to provide more affordable care to those who cannot afford the high prices for these tests, when done at other facilities.

We are looking forward to 2017 and a period of significant growth at Pamoja, and greatly appreciate the financial help that you provide. It will go a long way to improving the heath of low-income families in the Kilimanjaro Region.
