The weekly lesson is a core program of the organization. This is targeted at adolescent girls aged 10-18. Impact
Girls’ self-esteem improved thereby making them believe more in themselves
Girls taking informed decisions which foster the reduction of conformity when pressured by friends negatively.
Girls have enhanced their public speaking skills so well that some are taking up leadership roles in their various schools and worship places.
Most of the impact was accessed during the end of year day-out for beneficiaries of the program. Some responses are as follows:
“I now tell our family doctor I have an STI with full confidence. On like before I will shy away and say something else and get a wrong prescription. I am so happy for this confidence” - Faith F.
”I now know what my rights are as well as doing all the corresponding responsibilities to help me enjoy my full rights” – Abasi-ifreke E.
Challenges encountered
o Political unrest that hindered girls regularity
o Natural disaster (E.g flood, weather, persistent rainfall)
o Relocation (relocation of parent/guardians, change of schools)
o Transportation hike
o Insufficient space to accommodate girls in some groups made groups rowdy and uncomfortable to some
o Girls engagement in Church activities and running errands for parents/guardians on Sundays when lessons are held
Gaps
o Limited number of facilitators for groups
o Inadequate space to accommodate some large groups eg. Shining stars, pearls etc,
Opportunities:
o Trained GAA members on internship filling gaps on limited number of facilitators
