Through this project, AMANC SLP will have the means to provide three meals daily for children and adolescents with cancer and their primary caregiver. These families stay at AMANC Hostel during the child's cancer treatment and we strive to ensure each child gets the necessary nutritional supplements required during this period. In addition, we would like to be able to support their families with basic nutritional pantry products upon their return home for the child and their family.
At AMANC SLP we realize that approximately 40% of the children we receive have anemia, since medical treatments can have side effects that have a negative impact on their bodies, such as loss of appetite for a few days. They need food supplements to partially reverse this situation. Besides, we have seen that the patient's parents need stopping work to take care of their illness, which affects the other children who remain in the care of grandparents who do not have enough resources to feed them
AMANC SLP provides support to kids with cancer under the age of 20, with limited resources. We provide lodging and food among other things. We are sure that, through a balanced diet and the dietary supplements suggested by treating doctors, our beneficiaries will have a better response to cancer treatment by increasing their defenses and reducing the adverse effects of chemotherapy and radiation. Also, if we can support our kids with pantry items, we will also be helping to all their families.
With this project, 1500 meals will be provided, 250 groceries packages, and enough food supplement for 100 kids. This support has been related to an improvement in the patient's body weight, functional status, and quality of life.
