Report on the Improve school learning for 40,000 children Project

The ground is set for take off...!

The Teacher Foundation (TTF) is all set to implement a proven 1-year training program to significantly improve the teaching skills of 100 rural schoolteachers in Karnataka, India. This will benefit 40,000 underprivileged children on a sustained basis. TTF expresses its gratitude to all the donors and Global Giving for sharing this great responsibility. Since these children study in government schools, our target is their teacher. As we intend to work with teachers from govt schools, it is mandatory for us to run our programme in consultation and coordination with Government officials, Department of Public Instruction, Govt of Karnataka.

TTF will focus its efforts in the Yadgiri District of Karnataka and will work with 100 rural Government teachers from the 2 out of the 3 blocks in the district.  We have communicated about the project to Mr. H S Rama Rao, Director, Department of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT), Govt of Karnataka. TTF met Mr. Basanna Mahantha Gowda, Deputy Director of Public Instruction and Mr. Inyath Sindhe, Deputy Project Coordinator, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Campaign on Education for All) of the Yadgiri district in Karnataka and oriented them about our project. They expressed happiness about TTF's social concern and effort to bring about changes in the way teachers teach and assured their fullest support to us.

We have obtained the lists of teachers who will be part of this programme - 80 primary teachers from Shahapur Block and 40 high school teachers from Yadgiri Block.   These teachers are from 60 Government Schools.  Initially we will administer “Classroom Observation Checklist”, a tool developed by TTF to assess the teaching-learning process, for a sample of teachers for identifying the need areas and track the changes in their performance. The training for teachers is scheduled for the first batch of teachers on 24th and 25th of February 2012 and for the second on2nd and 3rd of February 2012 in Shahapur Block while TTF is in consultation with the Department officials to schedule the training programme in the Yadgiri Block.

We will conduct School Based Support (SBS), which allows the subject experts observe teachers conducting lessons and followed by one-on-one feedback after initial two days of training. Since the semester examinations for students will fall in the month of March, the first round of SBS will be held in June 2012, after summer vacations.

Once again, we thank the donors and the Global Giving for the platform. We will update you about the progress, and will upload pictures very soon.

For any comments or suggestions do please feel free to communicate.

Thanks..!

The TTF Team
