We are a Community Foundation located in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. One of our main objectives is to improve the quality of life of the region's vulnerable women and children and to help find a solution to the major problems relating to health, education and the environment that affect them. We work with organizations and initiatives in our community to achieve greater impact and benefit for its inhabitants.
The Highlands of Chiapas is one of the poorest regions in the country with approximately 90% of the indigenous population living in poverty and extreme poverty. The women and children make up the most vulnerable groups. The families do not have enough resources to afford healthcare and school expenses. In many cases, the children have to work to supplement the family's income. Children complete the 4th grade of basic education. 92% of the population don't have access to social security benefits.
We work with organizations and initiatives in our community to achieve greater impact and benefit for its inhabitants. At Amigos de San Cristobal A.C., we support and strengthen education and health projects that positively impact the region's vulnerable women and children through actions like literacy and regularization of basic education, healthy nutrition through family and community gardens, psycho-emotional support, and care for children/women, shelter for indigenous pregnant migrant women.
Our goal is to ensure that children, women, and families will have greater access to a healthy and balanced diet and will be provided with quality education, thus improving their development in the future. We also seek to empower women, particularly those who are victims of violence and in a precarious situation, so that they and their children can have a better quality of life.
