The project will reach 3,500 individuals (In & Out of school youths & the general population) aimed at influencing a change in social norms and individual behaviour that will help reduce the transmission and Prevalence of HIV in Ikaram-Ibaram Millennium Village (MV) cluster: Erusu, Ibaram, Iyani, Ase, Ikaram, Gedegede and Ajowa. A total of 5 strategies (Peer Education, Peer Education Plus, Community Awareness Campaign, School Based Approach and Addressing Vulnerability Issues) will be employed.
There are more than 350,000 orphans and vulnerable children in the implementation communities,they are classified as disadvantaged & poor in Nigeria.Children & young adults are subsumed within the poverty categories - households,communities,people -which means that there is a high tendency to focus on adult-related poverty while children and youths stand the risk of malnutrition, morbidity, psychological damage, stigma and discrimination.
The project will embark on an integrated program of education through trainings,awareness,empowerment,health maintenance & poverty eradication.The skills acquired through OVC trainings and that for care givers will boost economic viability of the care givers and the communities. It will provide necessary psychosocial support and improve the competence of care givers in providing adequate cares for the OVC.The OVC will as well gain confidence in decision making as they graduate to adulthood.
We will empower 70,000 households in Lagos/Oyo/Ekiti/Ondo States to provide increased access, responsive quality care, protection and support services for 350,000vulnerable children by the end of year 2018; build and strengthen organizational and technical capacity of 400 service providers and 400 care givers with relevant OVC providing services; facilitate the emergence of community associations of 1,250 youths in small groups to fuel empowerment to sustain interventions in project communities
