Over the past months, our main focus has been simple: keeping the animals already in our care safe, healthy and comfortable while continuing to respond to the cases that appear at our door.
And, as usual, they kept appearing. One of them was Zorro, a dog found tied to a tree with a chain embedded in his neck. After the chain was removed, he remained under veterinary supervision while we tried to solve another problem: where to put him. We had no free space, so we did what we often do, a little “dog Tetris.” We moved the puppies together and improvised a temporary place for Zorro.
The less visible part of improving conditions is the everyday one: cleaning their pens, washing the water buckets, making sure they all have a shady place to get out of the sun. It is not a glamorous work, and sometimes is not even visible ... it is just something that constantly happens and constantly needs supplies : a new bucket, a new broom, a new lock for the doors, a new door, a new fence, and so on.
We also continue looking for permanent homes whenever possible. Several of our younger dogs have been learning to walk on a leash, meeting new people, children and other animals, and getting used to experiences outside the shelter environment. Every successful adoption creates not only a home for one animal, but also desperately needed space for the next one.
Your support through this project helps us provide something beyond rescue itself: a decent life for the animals for as long as they remain in our care.
Thank you for helping us keep going.
