Sri Lanka Unites Reconciliation Centres located in war torn Mullaithivu and rural Matara are educational hubs, aimed at providing opportunities for youth in different districts around the country, focusing on strengthening aptitude in IT, language skills,entrepreneurial,journalism & education skills. This centers also provide for counseling and career guidance.The vision is to create sustainable Centres in every province of the country that will empower the youth & improve their employability
The final stages of the 3 decade Civil War in Sri Lanka came to a brutal end in Mullaithivu. As you would expect the most affected in the district were children. Most of these children living in the district did not understand what normalcy was till the end of the war. Having the opportunity to rebuild their lives they now have a lack of access to quality higher education, qualified teachers in schools and lacks the resources for standard education to increase their empoyability opportunities
SLU Reconciliation Centers aims to increase employability opportunities of the students and help them compete better in the industry by providing higher education, entrepreneurial skills and language skills. The Reconciliation Centers focuses on the underprivileged children and provides them with scholarships in IT, English, Business Entrepreneurship and Radio Journalism. The students also go through Career guidance workshops in-order to help them face successful job interviews and write CV's
Issues related employability can be solved through providing quality higher education to the students which lacks in the district at the moment. Lack of job opportunities can also be solved to a certain extent by encouraging students to start their own business and giving them the skills to do so. SLU also provides students with the necessary equipment & skills needed to initiate a businesses in certain instances. Entrepreneurship education also enlightens students on running family finances
