Euni (not real name) has been a domestic help from the age of 9 till secondary school; Euni’s enrollment in school and shelter over her head was the exchange for her service to the family, as she could not go to school if she remained with her mother since her dad was late. She barely has role models that could motivate her to have high aspirations for the future. But then, she participated in the iLEAD programme implemented in her school; fellows and teachers on the programme modelled the possibility that Euni could only wish for.
Through the programme, she learned more about her potential and developed a vision for her future. She also learned valuable leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. After completing the programme, Euni emerged as one of the best-graduating students from her school, and she also wanted to be independent. She started by gaining skills as a makeup artist; she saved her earnings till she could purchase sanitary towels as a retailer and distribute them to stores and clinics in her community. She used part of her profits to pay for her first-year tuition at the university.
The iLEAD programme is a valuable resource for young people in Nigeria. It gives them the tools to succeed in school, work, and life. Through this programme, young people are becoming leaders in their communities and positively impacting the world.
Euni is an inspiration to other young people in her community. She has shown them that overcoming adversity and achieving their dreams is possible. Your support will continue to enable us to empower more students like Euni, fresh graduates (NYSC Members) and teachers to become forces for community change. Join Us to make this a reality.
Thank you.
