Project Title: Ikatika – Get Connected! Mobile Application
Implementing Organization: Luanshya Information and Learning Center
Reporting Period: September 2026
Project Status Overview
The Luanshya Information and Learning Center is pleased to provide this progress report for our upcoming mobile application, Ikatika – Get Connected!. We are currently in the crucial pre-development phase. Funding is actively being raised to support the full lifecycle of the project. Thanks to the foundational support from GlobalGiving donors, we are on track to officially begin software development in January of 2027.
Progress & Activities To Date
While fundraising is underway, our team has been finalizing the conceptual framework and technical requirements for the application to ensure a seamless transition into the development phase:
- Localization & Accessibility Planning: We have structured the app's framework to accommodate Zambia’s unique digital realities. The architecture is designed to be highly data-light and optimized for both urban and rural network constraints.
- Language Integration: Core navigation and content parameters are being mapped out in ChiBemba and English to guarantee absolute inclusivity for all Luanshyan youth, regardless of their educational or economic background.
- Feature Mapping: We have finalized the user-experience blueprints. The app will feature advanced filtering capabilities—allowing users to sort verified entrepreneurship and business opportunities by age, location, and specific interests.
The Vision for Ikatika
Once development commences in January 2027, Ikatika will build out its core pillars: a robust, verified database of localized business opportunities, personalized skill-based recommendations, and an integrated network for mentorship and support services.
Our ultimate objective remains unchanged: to alter the life trajectories of youth across Luanshya and the broader Copperbelt province by driving successful transitions to adulthood, fostering economic stability, and cultivating community leadership.
Next Steps
Our primary focus for the remainder of 2026 is securing the remaining financial milestones required for the build. We look forward to sharing our first technical development updates with GlobalGiving and our community of supporters early next year.
