Mente en Acción

On March 27th we concluded the 14th edition of MenTe en Accion. We received 169 applications and selected 70 participants from all across the country, graduating 60 beneficiaries. This edition was sponsored by Accenture Costa Rica, Citrix Costa Rica and counted with the support of Efecto Boomerang.

The 15th edition, currently ongoing, started on May 8th. We received 138 applications and selected 75 young women who will be graduating on June 26th.

The program consists of 17 four-hour sessions rolled out during eight Saturdays, where participants learn about gender empowerment, leadership and teamwork as well as the basics of programming in order to develop a mobile app prototype in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. Our team includes 25 technical mentors who support the participants in developing this prototype.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these sessions are held 100% online.

Red Mente

(MenTe Network)

Due to COVID-19 all network activities have been hosted on virtual platforms. We’ve started offering exercise sessions three times a week to promote participants’ physical and mental health by exercising in a sorority filled space. We are also offering support to those who need to find internship opportunities out of highschool with training workshops to help them improve their employability profile. We are currently planning the activities we’ll be hosting to commemorate International Women’s Day, and for Menstrual Hygiene Day, members of the network had the opportunity to take English lessons, participate in panel discussions on digital safety and other talks.

Entrepreneurship Incubator

This program was created as a response to the development opportunities identified observing the various situations faced by members of the network as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program aims to offer tools, knowledge and support to help these women and their families develop and improve their entrepreneurial endeavors. Throughout the process, we also aspire to create a community and support network among the entrepreneurs to boost their income through their different projects.

The Entrepreneurship Incubator started on February 6th and concluded on May 13th. Out of 43 applicants we selected 34 young women of which 16 completed the program, graduating in May. We had the support of 14 mentors who guided participants throughout the process.

Conectadas

The objective of this program is to offer women a wider access to technological tools, demystify the fear surrounding the use of technology that some women might have due to lack of information, and teach them how to surf the web safely, preventing cyber-bullying. So far in 2021, we have trained 438 women all across the country on topics such as Digital Security, recommendations for their CV, the ABCs of mobile devices and Social Media 101.

F*ckUp Nights San José V. XIII

This is a global movement that’s been taking place in Costa Rica since 2016. Costa Rican entrepreneurs are invited to share their F*ckUps (failures) with an unknown public. The purpose is to debunk the myth of failure and understand failing as a necessary part of the entrepreneurial process.

We had another F*ckUpNights edition on May 27th. It was held on a virtual platform and invited speakers talked about their endeavors, their main failures along the way, and how they have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was hosted on Zoom Meetings, with 53 assistants.
