GlobalGiving Project Progress Report 

Reporting Period: Twelve-month project progress report (January–July 2026) 

Executive Summary 

In our fast-paced world, being digitally literate is not just a nice-to-have; it’s a crucial skill that can shape educational outcomes, open doors to future job opportunities, and enable meaningful engagement in society. Sadly, many children in rural Uganda are growing up without ever having the chance to use a computer or tap into digital learning resources. This digital gap leaves vulnerable learners at a serious disadvantage compared to their peers in more affluent areas. To tackle this issue, Mafabi Apostolic Ministries International (MAMI) has launched the ICT for Learning: Empowering 300 Pupils Digitally project via the GlobalGiving platform.        This initiative is about integrating information and communication technology (ICT) into classroom experiences, ensuring that these vulnerable children gain the digital skills they need to succeed in our tech-driven world. 

This report offers a snapshot of how the project is progressing, including updates on implementation, fundraising efforts, achievements, lessons learned, and the pressing need for ongoing investment in digital education. 

Background 

Technology is reshaping education around the globe. Digital learning fosters creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills key ingredients for success in today’s world.

Unfortunately, many schools in Uganda that cater to disadvantaged communities are missing even the most basic ICT infrastructure. This means that, there are thousands of children finish primary school without picking up crucial digital skills. Without access to ICT, these vulnerable learners are at a significant disadvantage when it comes to secondary education, higher learning, and future job opportunities. Through this project, MAMI aims to close that gap by creating a supportive learning environment where every child can develop digital literacy, no matter their socioeconomic background.

Project Goal 

The goal is to raise USD 10,000 to support 300 vulnerable students by: 

• Integrating ICT into classroom teaching and learning. 

• Acquiring computers and digital learning tools. 

• Building teachers' capacity in ICT integration. 

• Developing children's digital literacy skills. 

• Enhancing educational quality and academic performance. 

• Preparing learners for the demands of the digital economy. 

Fundraising Progress 

The project was launched on the GlobalGiving platform with a fundraising goal of USD 10,000. 

Current Status 

• Project target: USD 10,000 

• Funds raised: USD 1 

• Funding gap: USD 9,999 

• Fundraising Progress: Approximately 0.01% 

While the financial response has been modest, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to every donor, friend, family member, and supporter who has contributed to this project. Every single contribution reflects a shared belief that every child deserves access to digital learning opportunities. 

Project implementation 

Despite limited financial resources, MAMI is dedicated to promoting digital education using local expertise. The USD 1 raised through GlobalGiving was used to support a small ICT awareness workshop and mentorship session led by our internal volunteer facilitators with in the school as an institution. This approach enabled the school to start integrating ICT concepts into the curriculum while boosting skills of local educators who will keep driving digital learning initiatives in the future. While it may seem like just a small step, it actually set a crucial groundwork for future ICT integration within the school.

Impact achieved

Even with limited resources, the project made a significant impact, such as ICT awareness and mentorship sessions:

• Introduced students to fundamental digital concepts.

• Sparked curiosity and excitement for technology among learners.

• Boosted teachers' confidence in promoting digital learning.

• Built local capacity through mentorship and knowledge sharing.

• Showed the school’s dedication to embracing technology, even with tight resources.

Perhaps most importantly, this initiative ignited hope in students who dream of one day using computers, accessing online educational resources, and fully engaging in the digital world.

Challenges

The biggest hurdle remains the lack of adequate funding. With only USD 1 raised against a project goal of USD 10,000, the school hasn’t been able to roll out many of the planned activities, such as:

• Buying computers and laptops.

• Setting up an ICT laboratory.

• Acquiring projectors and digital learning tools.

• Providing internet access.

• Purchasing educational software.

• Expanding teacher ICT training.

• Integrating digital learning across all primary classes.

Without these essential resources, many vulnerable children are left out of opportunities that are becoming increasingly vital in today’s education landscape.

Why this project matters

Digital literacy is no longer a luxury; it’s a necessity opening doors to education, innovation, employment, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning, hence every child deserves the chance to: Learn basic computer skills; access digital educational resources; cultivate creativity and innovation; compete confidently in a world that’s becoming more digital; and prepare for future careers.

Children in rural areas should not be left behind just because they were born in places where technology is hard to come by. Bridging the digital divide is crucial for ensuring that every child has equal access to educational opportunities regardless of their family background and status.

We urgently need an additional USD 9,999 to fully bring this project to life. Your support will help us: 

Set up a fully functional ICT laboratory; acquire computers, laptops, and tablets; install internet connectivity; train teachers in digital education; provide essential digital learning resources; integrate ICT into daily classroom activities; and empower 300 vulnerable students with vital 21st-century skills.  Every contribution, no matter how big or small, plays a part in closing the digital divide and creating new opportunities for children whose futures hinge on access to technology.

As we step into the next phase of implementation, MAMI is dedicated to ensuring that vulnerable learners are not left behind in this digital age. We will keep building partnerships, engaging supporters, and advocating for more investment in ICT for education.

With your help, we believe that Bright Futures Preparatory Nursery and Primary School can become a shining example of digital learning in rural Uganda, equipping children with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the information age.

Conclusion  

The first phase of this project has highlighted the pressing need for digital education and unwavering spirit of our school community to embrace innovation, even with limited resources. While we have only raised USD 1 so far, that contribution has sparked ICT awareness and mentorship activities, showing that even the smallest act of kindness can set off a wave of change in lives.
