Established in 1997, the International Career Advancement Program (ICAP) is a professional development and leadership program for highly promising mid-career professionals in international affairs who are committed to fair representation without regard to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or disability. Now entering its 28th year and with more than 900 alumni, ICAP has helped its participants advance to senior positions in all employment sectors, from US Ambassadors at State to executive directors of nonprofits to chief executive officers in the private sector.
ICAP offers participants a rich personal and professional learning and networking experience, focused on professional and leadership growth, in an incredible mountain environment that encourages separation from day-to-day duties. It is an experience that many previous participants have described as “life-changing.” The program involves a day-long session in Washington, D.C., an eight-day program in Aspen, Colorado, and follow-on activities after Aspen.
Beyond the program in Aspen, over 900 ICAP Fellows are spread across the globe and form a community where members both seek and offer personal and professional support. Additionally, Fellows engage with a group of 20-30 senior advisors, faculty, and career counselors who offer advice and mentorship both personally and professionally. Recent events hosted by Fellows and senior leaders include Community Conversations, Building Your Personal Brand, and Transitioning from the Public Sector to the Private Sector.
ICAP looks forward to growing the Fellows community and strengthening U.S. global leadership in international affairs.
