The use of computers and computer related devices has not only become so important and crucial but at the same time part of life..!! Every work, every where in the world has become more digital than manual and the application of computers has become inevitable in the modern world. Balikyewunya Foundation plans to install a computer network at Kingsland Junior School in Masaka-Uganda for educational purposes for every kid in their Primary School. This will help kids aquire basic computer skills.
Computer literacy in Uganda is still very low, standing at 2% in the whole country according to current statistics but with places where it is at 100%. In rural Uganda, most schools do not have access to computers neither do teachers know how to teach or use them. Given the world trend in computers, the teaching of computer application in schools at all levels is paramount.
In order to combat computer illiteracy which stands at 100% in schools around our community, Balikyewunya Foundation intends to support an I T (Computer) project at the Kingsland Junior school. Kids in every class from Kindergarten to P 7 will have 2 computer lessons each week. This will usher pupils with great computer knowledge into their high school, college and subsequently University.
Each of the 337 pupils who currently attend the Kingsland school will receive computer lessons 2 times every week. After finishing their education, some will be teachers who will come back to benefit schools in their respective communities. Teachers will also benefit from a weekend program where they will be taken through different computer applications at their level.
