Hygiene and Sanitation Awareness for Women

1. Executive Summary

The Hygiene and Sanitation Awareness for Women project is a community-based health initiative implemented by Empower Women Welfare Foundation to improve hygiene practices, menstrual health awareness, and sanitation conditions among women and girls in rural and underserved areas of Pakistan.

The project empowers women through hygiene education, menstrual health awareness sessions, distribution of hygiene kits, and training of local women as Community Health Ambassadors. Aligned with WHO WASH guidelines, the initiative focuses on reducing preventable diseases, improving girls’ school attendance, and promoting dignity, health, and wellbeing.

2. Problem Statement

In many rural communities, women and girls face serious challenges due to:

  • Lack of basic hygiene and sanitation education
  • Poor menstrual hygiene management and limited awareness
  • High risk of infections and preventable diseases
  • Girls missing school during menstruation
