Children and adults with special needs in Moldova, the poorest country in Europe, are isolated, lacking inclusion, education, and treatments. In 2015, we opened the first world-class centre for children with disabilities in the country, providing physiotherapy, sensory therapy, and speech and language therapy. We provide therapies to over 200 children a year. A swimming pool will bring additional useful treatment to these underprivileged children---hydrotherapy.
Hydrotherapy promotes physical and emotional well-being of children with special needs. Your support will help us to build the first warm water, fully accessible pool in northern Moldova to provide free hydrotherapy to over 400 disabled youth a year as well as swimming lessons for 100s more poor students in the community. Not only will the pool bring more joy to more children, but hydrotherapy will also make their joints more flexible, strengthen their muscles, and, in many cases, reduce pain.
With decreased pain and increased mobility, the youth who have received the hydrotherapy treatments and learned to swim, will become stronger, feel more independent and less isolated, and develop an empowered CAN DO attitude. In the most successful cases, children will be enrolled in the public school system.
